Life in perspective
I made this visualisation to try and give me (and hopefully you) a sense of overview of the milestones and the essential life phases and put them in perspective, based on the time I have lived so far and might still have left.
Everything is also interactive, so feel free to click around.
The timeline
We live for a very long time. And it is difficult to truly understand how long and extensive that life is. With that it is also hard to grasp how much of our life has already happened and might (or not) be still ahead of us. And your lives are not just simply the amount of years we have lived, but also the milestones and life phases that shaped us into who we are today.
With that in mind,I’ve taken all of the milestones (marked a clickable years) and phases of my life (marked a underscoring lines) and visualised it along a 100 year long timeline, in which each block represents a year. Initially my design was a very neat grid of 10 by 10 years, but noticed it kinda looked like a spreadsheet. And it felt a little odd to reduce something as organic and a life into something like a table. Through some artistic research I realised that a winding path representing a life-line is better way to represent a life.
